Overload on my 5 for Friday & Getting ready for my giveaway!

Yay! It is Friday! Only a few more weeks left of school and I will have officially made it through my first year teaching! It is unbelievable! It flew right on by!

I am linking up today with Doodle Bugs Teaching for the Fab 5 for Friday!
I have  a whole lot to share!
fiveforfriday

1. I will begin with something personal! This past weekend my boyfriend, his mom and step dad and I all went to the Red's baseball game! It was so fun and I got to see my favorite person, Joey Votto!!

2. Today, I was approached at becoming the middle school cheerleading coach at my school! I of course said yes! One of my mini-dreams was always to be a teaching and a cheerleading coach! Yayy! I am so excited! I know it'll be a ton of work but I am going to enjoy it so much! I loved cheering and gymnastics when I was younger so this is perfect for me!
Here is a throwback from the cheering days!

3. This week I had my BG (college student) helper teach a mini-lesson that she created for one of her classes. She taught students the life cycle of a sun flower! She did such a great job and I have to show off her board that she made for the lesson! I want to make this!!

This week we also did a bit of living & non-living (where it could be fit in) I took 2 pictures of student work! We worked on the vocabulary this week that we use to identify something that is living and non-living.

4. This week in first grade at my school it was all about the Iowa's. This is a standardized test for first grade. Can I just talk about how BORED I was this week?! Ugh... it was so hard to hide this from my kids. I tried to make this test as fun as it could me but it was just so darn boring. There were 9 sections and it took all week.
Here is a funny story though... The second day testing I had one of my little guys completely fall out of his chair twice! It scared me half to death so I went over and asked if he was okay and stood near him the rest of the test so I could catch him if he fell. Well, yesterday I was reading through another teachers blog who mentioned that this same thing happened in her classroom... and how it was a behavior thing!! Never would I have thought this would be a behavior issue! But, there you have it... the kid was fine; just didn't want to do the test!

5. Now.. since this week was so boring I had to make sure next week was going to be fun! We are going to the zoo in two weeks and my students will be researching an animal of their choice independently. So, I need to teach them to do this. I was browsing around and on theinspiredapple (Abby) I saw her non-fiction writing unit on whales! I fell and love and well I am doing it! I am so excited about this! I am combining some of what she did because this topic has already been introduced to my kiddos!
Here is what the set up looks like!
I bought Dee Dee's May poems too because she has this awesome ocean poem that just goes perfectly with the whale theme! I couldn't resist!

Now.. onto the important stuff! :)

I am TWO followers away from 100!!!!!!!!
Am I begging? lol...sorta!

Telling Something Good*

Just the look of this cute graphic is so refreshing. This week my kids have been taking the IOWA's which is a first grade standardized test with 9 parts.
It has been so tiring for the kids and quite frankly this week has been so boring and tiring for me as well. I don't only like to teach hands on but I like to be hands on too and help my kids! There is none of that this week... so there is my pity party for the week & my something good from this week...

I AM CLOSE TO 100 FOLLOWERS ON MY BLOG!
At this current moment I am only 3 followers away from 100! This may not seem like a huge deal but this is a huge hobby of mine and the fact that people are interested in what I say and enjoy my ideas is just awesome to me! I love, love, love searching other blogs and the tpt store for ideas to incorporate into my classroom and I love that I get to be a part of the fun when providing products and ideas!

Another something good! This is a bittersweet one...
but this year was my first year teaching and I am so excited that I made it through! All of my kids know their sight words, they all can read & write... and they have grown so much this year!! Even though this year was a bit of a roller coaster for me I am glad that I can always hone in on what's important about my career choice and that's the kids! I am happy I am almost through with my first year but I am going to be a wreck on the last day. My kids fit me perfectly and we have created such a close connection with one another! I truly enjoy my kiddos and I am miss them! My very first class! :(

Before my post is over I have had a few people that are so gracious to donate products to my 100 follower giveaway!
If you would also love to donate an item then please leave me a comment with your e-mail so I can contact you or e-mail me at jessicaearlyteacher@gmail.com letting me know that you would love to donate something! I would appreciate it so much!

Alrighty... off to bed I go now!
I will chat with you tomorrow for the 5 for Friday!

Earth Day Fun!

Before I start... I am only 7 people away from the magic number of 100 followers!
I am of course going to be having a 100 follower giveaway!
If you would like to donate an item then please comment below with you e-mail address and I will contact you!
Thanks so much! I am oober excited!!

Last week students learned all about Earth Day and completed a fun booklet from Amy Lemon's earth day unit! Here is a bit of what we did!

Here is one of the little earth 'gals.' This little one made the heart into a hair bow. So cute! Inside of the booklet students wrote about how people can help the earth and then another earth topic of their choice. I forgot to take pictures of their actual writing.

Here is my little wall that I have to hang stuff up on. :)
I've got to get a better camera!
I have a bigger one too but my dinosaurs are still on there!

This is dirt pudding that I got from a little girl from a colleagues class. I ate the worm before I took the picture! ha ha... I just couldn't resist. But, I took the picture and posted it because next year I want to make this stuff with my class! I can't believe I didn't think of it this year!

Then here is a booklet that one of my little girls wrote. The whole book isn't on here but I wanted to share some of it with you! I just love it! It really shows that she 'got it.' Love, love, love it when they write books for me! I take the books they write and put them in my classroom library! You would be surprised how much the kids read the books that were written by classmates! Next year I want to incorporate a lot more book writing!

Last, but not least I just had to share this with you. According to the little guy (with the stuffed animal AKA Bunny Peep Peep)... There is a  meteor shower? I was curious and didn't know this so I looked it up... and there is.. its quite a big one! He was so excited that he spend his entire inside recess working with 'Bunny Peep Peep' (stuffed animal) and this other little guy making a picture of his animal watching the shower... When they finished drawing the stars they divided them into fractional parts! That made me so happy! (YAY we are even learning at recess!!)

Proof!
Look outside tonight!

Lastly... It has literally been forever since I have posted a product on Tpt and well it is about time!! I am ALMOST done with my "Sizzling Into Summer" literacy centers! It should be done by Wednesday! Whoop Whoop! Keep an eye out!!

It'll be given away to one lucky person!!

Now... We are going to be combining this post with Latoya's Linky!

Topic: Three favorite parts of my room!

My room is oober tiny so there is not much to it so the stuff I share with you with my tiny as well. I am grateful for having a room to teach it BUT it is so small that I had to move furniture in front of closets so it would pass the Fire Marshall's test! Yah that small.. and I had to squish students tables together...very tiny room!

1. My Rug!!!!
It is the one spot I can do my small group lessons and where students can do activities with partners and spread out a bit! I wish I had a ton of floor room because I love station activities and teaching in a way where students get to DO stuff! It is very hard to do in a little room... but I do it!

2. The second thing that is my favorite about my room is my kids! That room is nothing without them in there! My day brightens each day they come in! I am the happiest person in the world when I get to shut my door and just teach! <3 them and <3 my room the most when they're in there!

3. MY SMART BOARD!
Ugh.. Can I just say that this thing makes my lessons so much more exciting?!! I don't have a direct picture of it but it is to the left in this picture! Also, if you want to know just how little my room is.. here it is. There is a wall to the right. The room you see to the right of the red table is all the room I have. My room doesn't look quite like this any more. My desk is in the front corner of the room and the bookshelves are in a cubby in the back of the room!

Okie Dokie... All done! Have a great Monday!

Skittles Game!

I am linking up with Latoya for the "Let's Get Acquainted Linky Party!"

This weeks little party seems so fun and I just had to play along!

Skittles GAME!!
My favorite candy ever!

*red*
My favorite ice cream flavor is the chocolate ice cream with brownie pieces in it! Yum!

*orange*
My favorite memory from college is the day I met my best friend Mindy. I have never had a friend like her and I am so blessed to have found her. We have made so many memories and we are still making more. We always joke and say we are going to be old and gray in rocking chairs still making jokes and being ornery!

*yellow*
Favorite sports team is the Reds! I basically only like them because of Joey Votto & because it is my boyfriends favorite team.

Joey Votto

See why I like the reds?... yep he is cute!

*green*
Favorite fast food place would have to be Jimmy Johns... I hope this is considered fast food. I don't like the greasy stuff.

*purple*
One thing about myself...
I am quite shy when I meet people at first... but as you get to know me I really open up and probably end up talking to much! ;)

There is my little bloggy post for today! Enjoy your Monday!!!

Peek At My Week!

This week in my classroom it is all about Earth Day! Reducing, recycling and reusing are big health standards at our school so I wanted to get a jump start on it! I bought great products to use for this week so you will have to jump over to take a look at them! I like to create my own things but last week was so busy for me that there was no way I was going to get anything done.

Here are the products I am using this week!

Can you tell I went on a Tpt shopping spree?

I do not have my literacy centers in my plans yet. They are all set up at school and I am drawing a blank with what stations are where... I will upload those tomorrow!

Any who here are this weeks plans!! Click on them to get a better look!
A freebie is below!

I am using this when teaching double digit addition. Students will solve the problem using base ten blocks. They will write their answer and then under the flip they will draw the base ten blocks they used to get their answer.

I also found this idea on pinterest. I am going to use a shower curtain for this. I am going to draw circles with numbers on them (using dry erase marker so I can change them). Then I will be giving the kiddos a bean bag to throw onto a number: record and then add it together. I have yet to make the recording form. That won't take too long! Stay tuned because I will probably post it on here for free! I do not have time right now to be making full units. :( problems of a first year teacher!

Thanks to Dee Dee for the linky party!

Have a great week with your kids! Chat with you soon!
